We are excited to help you plan your MSU adventure! To best meet your needs, our advisors offer appointments online, over the phone, and in person.  

  • How to schedule an appointment

    Scheduling an Appointment

    Please follow these instructions to schedule an appointment with an advisor:

    1. Log in at student.msu.edu
    2. Click on Academic Progress
    3. Click on Advising/Tutoring Appointments
    4. Click on Create New Appointment
    5. Select the following appointment details:
      1. Category: Select Advising
      2. Advising/Tutoring Unit: Select College of Social Science Advising
      3. Appointment Reason: Click the look-up/magnifying glass icon and select Global & International Studies (Reason Code 0131) if you are a GLIS major or Interdisciplinary Studies Soci (Reason Code 0154) if you are an IDS major. Do not search for Global and International Studies or Interdisciplinary Studies in the text box. 
      4. Appointment Duration: This will default to 30 minutes. 
      5. Additional Information (required): Please enter the reason for your appointment to help the advsior prepare, e.g. scheduling classes, graduation check, etc.
      6. Appointment Type: Select your preference of an in-person, phone, or Zoom appointment. 
      7. Click Select Advisor:
        1. Choose your preferred date and time with one of our advisors and click Select Time. You may need to scroll down the page to view the complete list. Use the Next Days hyperlink to see more available dates.
    6. Review all appointment information, including any advisor notes, and click Book it! at the bottom of the page.

     

    Please Note: Advisors post available times at least 1-2 weeks in advance. If the schedule is full, that only means nothing is available for the next week or two. You will need to schedule your appointment a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the appointment. If you find that you will be unable to make your appointment for any reason, make sure that you cancel it so that another student may be able to fill that space.
