About Us

Welcome to the Center for Integrative Studies in Social Science!

We offer two customizable majors: Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Science and Global and International Studies in Social Science. Students in these programs design their paths to graduation based on their interests and goals, supported by high-quality instruction in interdisciplinary thought, customized career guidance, and excellent professors and academic advisors.

Each major offers several focus area options, including an integrative studies concentration that is fully customizable by the student in consultation with faculty members and advisors. If you can’t find the major you are looking for or if you want to design your own social science degree, we are here to help!

We have a strong focus on experiential learning via innovative courses and learning opportunities. Students in our majors benefit from opportunities to engage with their communities, to design and carry out research projects, and to present research to a variety of audience. We offer scholarships to support students engaging in internships, study away, and study abroad programs—some of which are led by our own faculty members.

The Center also proudly administers the social science portion of the University’s general education requirement through ISS courses. We ensure every Spartan doctor, lawyer, nurse, teacher, journalist, entrepreneur, and more has a strong foundation in the social sciences to guide their work.

We are MSU’s home for interdisciplinary social sciences and we are delighted to work on behalf of all Spartans. Go Green!
